Development of an area for rest and services
Historically, for more than 3,000 years, the narrow lowlands between the mountain and the Caspian Sea have been used as a resting place for caravans going from the north to Baku and vice versa. The new rest area is planned to be in exactly the same place on the new Baku-Quba highway. It will simultaneously be a turning-off point to Besh Barmag mountain and a place for relaxation for travellers and birdwatchers.
The main idea behind the new rest stop is based on the creation of a small, clean and comfortable area for rest and services, which will satisfy both short-term and long-term visitors. Bearing in mind the different amounts of time people will be spending there and the existing form of the landscape, the buildings are composed in the shape of a triangle.
The spaces for short-term activities are closer to the road and include shops, fast food places, toilet facilities and stalls where local residents sell fruit and vegetables. The longer-term activities are intended for travellers who are not in a hurry and want to enjoy the view of the sea, or visit the local tourist information centre, birdwatching tower or mosque.
